Yankton Sioux Tribe Wagner Pathway

PROJECT BRIEF

After determining a need for a non-vehicular path, exclusively for pedestrians and bicyclists generating accessibility and safety between Tribal facilities, the Yankton Sioux Tribe sought out necessary funding alternatives in order to support the project. KLJ assisted the Yankton Sioux Tribe in obtaining a South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT), Transportation Alternatives (TA) Program grant to construct the shared-use path connecting residential and Tribal facilities to improve safety.

SERVICES:

  • Tribal Services
  • Survey

SOLUTIONS

The team worked with Tribal members and SDDOT on transportation, site improvement, pedestrian safety, and connectivity. KLJ led the path design completed in 2020 and finilized construction in 2021. The shared-path is located in the southern portion of Wagner along their Main Street.

RESULTS

KLJ led the path design for the 10-foot wide path that is approximately 2,500 linear feet and connects to the existing sidewalks to the north and is adjacent to South Housing, and connects Tribal Headquarters and other facilities on the south-side in Wagner, SD. KLJ provided design and construction services, environmental, planning, and public engagement for the project.
